About the NNIC

NNIC invests in the next generation of local and global leaders by creating opportunities for Nevadans to engage with international issues and cultures. Through educational exchanges, leadership programs and community engagement initiatives, participants gain firsthand experience with global perspectives and build meaningful cross-cultural connections.

Opportunities for engagement for the local community can range from hosting international visitors and participating in leadership exchanges to volunteering with refugee resettlement programs. Volunteers can support newly arrived families by assisting with mail, teaching English, participating in World Refugee Day events and helping newcomers navigate life in Northern Nevada.

NNIC programs

NNIC advances global understanding and community engagement through three core program areas:

  • Refugee Resettlement: Serving as Northern Nevada’s refugee resettlement agency for a decade, helping refugees, humanitarian parolees and survivors of human trafficking rebuild their lives and integrate into the community.
  • Language Access Services: Providing interpretation and translation services in more than 300 languages through the NNIC Language Bank.
  • International Exchanges: Coordinating professional and cultural exchange programs for international visitors through the U.S. Department of State and other federal agencies.

Community Education and Cultural Engagement

Organizing educational programs, events and activities that promote cross-cultural understanding and connect local communities with global perspectives.

Global Gala

The Global Gala is NNIC’s signature fundraising event and a celebration of Northern Nevada’s diverse and internationally connected community. The event highlights NNIC’s impact, recognizes the region’s role in an increasingly interconnected world and raises critical support for the organization’s programs and services.

Guests enjoy cultural performances, international cuisine and opportunities to learn more about the people and programs that strengthen global engagement throughout Nevada.

Purpose

We believe humanity is strongest when no one is left behind. In a world marked by displacement, division, and difference, NNIC stands at the intersection of compassion and action partnering with communities, organizations, and global citizens to build a world where shared humanity is not just an ideal, but a lived reality for every refugee, immigrant, and international visitor we serve.

Vision

A world where shared humanity transcends borders, where every refugee, immigrant, and international visitor belongs, contributes, and thrives in the communities they call home.

Mission

NNIC champions shared humanity and human dignity by welcoming refugees, resettling the displaced, and connecting cultures through exchange so that every person can fully belong.

Values

  • Shared Humanity - We see ourselves in every person we serve. Regardless of origin, language, or background, every individual carries inherent worth and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Dignity - We believe dignity is non-negotiable. Every refugee, immigrant, and international visitor we welcome deserves services, relationships, and a community that honors their full humanity.
  • Belonging - We don't just open doors, we build homes. We are committed to creating communities where everyone is fully seen, valued, and empowered to contribute.
  • Courage - We advocate for those whose voices are often unheard. We challenge barriers, voice inequities, and stand firmly on the side of justice even when it is difficult.
  • Partnership - No organization transforms lives alone. We collaborate deeply with communities, partners, and global citizens because our collective strength is always greater than our individual reach.
  • Excellence - Those we serve deserve our very best. We pursue continuous learning, innovation, and accountability in everything we do.
